This article is about the Animatronic Captain Hook, a boss in Epic Mickey. For the real Captain Hook who appears in Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, please see Captain Hook.

"I hope you're GEARED up for this...Because this is going to be... BARRELS... of FUN!" - Animatronic Captain Hook, before he battles Mickey.

Animatronic Captain Hook is the third boss of Epic Mickey. He was originally a Toon, a rejected variant of the classic Captain Hook, however, after he had created a machine to turn himself into an animatronic, Hook went berserk and turned on his crew, using said machine to convert his crew into Bashers. His right-hand man, a rejected design of Smee, and some of his crew escaped to Ventureland.

He is voiced by Corey Burton.

In Epic Mickey[]

During Captain Hook's fight, Mickey has three options:

  • To defeat Hook for the Paint Path, Mickey must paint in the stairs to the helm area, and from there climb the rigging and masts to the top of the ship where Pete Pan's Sprite is held in a cage. If the player uses the Spin Move to break the cage and free her, she will fly off to bring Pete Pan to the fight. Mickey will be rewarded with a Paint upgrade and the "Hook vs. Pete Pan" Pin. The game's Good Ending will show the two sworn enemies still battling on the Jolly Roger.
  • To defeat Hook for the Thinner Path, Mickey must battle him on the deck. Hook will shoot Thinner from his gun and throw Thinner bombs at Mickey, which can be repelled with a Spin Move. By either repelling the bombs or by thinning him with the Paintbrush, Hook's outer layer must be worn down so Mickey can spin him to send him down his track he is on. There are several gears on the Jolly Roger to be spun, and they must be adjusted properly to align the track to lead to the plank where he will fall off into the Thinner Ocean and be chased down by Animatronic Tick-Tock the Crocodile. This will give Mickey a Thinner upgrade and the "Captain Hook" Pin. The game's bad ending will show Hook's hook floating on the water, indicating that he was devoured.

As an alternative for the Thinner Path, Mickey can use the gears to align Hook's track into walls and masts of the ship to damage him and eventually smash him to bits. The outcome of this fight is the same as feeding him to the Crocodile, except after the fight the player can find Animatronic Hook's head moving around on the deck of the ship. It has unique animation but is impossible to interact with and has no collision.

In Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two[]

In Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Captain Hook is shown to have disappeared but it is never mentioned how; it may be related to the pirates being driven from Tortooga by Blackbeard. There is a mission that involves finding Hook's clothes in hidden chests around Ventureland and then giving them to Animatronic Daisy or Smee to unlock access to the Construction Site.

If Mickey gives Daisy the clothes, it allows her to put the clothes on a dummy to convince Smee to find his old captain. Or, if Mickey gives the clothes to Smee, he'll give Mickey a Fastpass, which will get Mickey into Tiki Sam's Basement Tunnel to the Jungle Cruise for free. If Mickey uses the Fastpass, Tiki Sam will say: "Mickey got a Fastpass? I haven't seen one of those in ages."

Trivia[]

  • Animatronic Hook was not originally a Beetleworx, but a rejected variant of the animated character, similar to the Petes.
  • The character animations in the scene of the fight between Pete Pan and Animatronic Captain Hook are taken from a similar scene in the movie Peter Pan.
  • When Hook battles Pete Pan, he doesn't use his Thinner or Paint cannon on him even though he used them on Mickey and only using a regular sword. It may be a preference for battling Pete Pan, as in the film, Hook does not use his gun to fight Peter.
  • There's a glitch where if Mickey defeated Hook by dismantling him, places a TV Sketch next to his dismantled head, and then goes to retrieve the rocket part on the ship, Hook will somehow be fully functional and continue fighting Mickey like nothing happened. The player can, however, leave, as this doesn't affect the exit Projector Screen.
  • Even after defeating Hook, the Sprite can still be saved and Pete Pan will have unique dialogue thanking Mickey but not mentioning fighting Hook. The pirates in Ventureland will still act like Hook is still alive; this could either be a developer oversight or Mickey simply not telling the crew that he killed their captain. It's also possible that, as an Animatronic, Hook's "death" could only be a temporary setback and he could be rebuilt.
  • Before the battle, Captain Hook will say "Now, remember! Best keep your arms and legs inside the ship at all times." as part of his speech. This is a reference to the talking skull that appears at the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in the Disney Parks.
  • If Mickey uses the Jolly Roger's gears to align Animatronic Hook's path into the wall to the left of the staircase, he will break the wall and reveal a secret room with a treasure chest.
